Provigil is a brand name for modafinil. A generic contains the same active ingredient at the same strength and is approved on the basis that it performs equivalently in the body.
The differences that do exist are real but narrow: the inactive ingredients, the appearance of the tablet, and the cost. For most people none of those changes the treatment.
